Burgener Nebulizers:

Our US Prices were raised in 2017 to be a little higher than 2016 prices, but back to the prices we had in 2014. Supplies have increased in cost and labour has increased in cost but overall we have been able to maintain a nearly constant retail price for over 10 years. The following is approximately the GBP price, based on the exchange rate as of January, 2019
With a lot of changes still likely in currencies, it is most likely that we will change prices again in the summer of 2019. As usual, especially with the present currency variations and strange economic times, we reserve the right to change prices at any time.
Shipping and Taxes are extra.

NOTE: we accept both VISA and MC, but we have Canadian accounts, and we must convert the prices to Canadian equivalents when processing VISA and MC. Such conversions will be at the present exchange rates. We try to calculate it so that the converted Euro/GBC price will be equal to or lower than the US list prices.

Mira Mist and Ari Mist Nebulizers for ICP and ICP/MS

Teflon Mira Mist

Can operate on 0.2 ml/min to 2.5 ml/min. Excellent mist, and can handle high level of particulates in sample. Fits regular chambers as a direct replacement for glass concentric nebulizers. Operates on standard pressures of 35 - 45 psi. The Teflon Mira Mist can be used for any liquid. Salting is very rare, but can occur over long periods of time, especially with high Sodium levels in the solution. Such salting can be cleared easily with a dip in 5 - 10% HF, (Caution: Be careful when handling HF. It soaks into the skin before you feel it burning, and in low concentrations it looks like water.)

PEEK Mira Mist

Same as the Teflon Mira Mist, but easier to make than the Teflon Mira Mist, so you save a little. Works for most samples, but not concentrated acids, and not some organic solvents. Still has Teflon capillaries for the samples and for the gas. Standard pressure (45 psi), low sample flow, enhanced parallel path design. Can operate on 0.2 ml/min to 2.5 ml/min. Excellent mist, and can handle high level of particulates in sample. Fits regular chambers as a direct replacement for glass concentric nebulizers.

T 2100

Huge Sample Capillary: 750 microns / 1/32 inch. Designed as replacement for T2002 and BTN. Essentially unpluggable with un-dissolved particles. Can operate on 0.5 ml/min to 3.0 ml/min. Excellent mist, but not quite as good as Mira Mist, but better than most concentrics. Can handle very high level of particles in sample. Fits regular chambers as a direct replacement for glass concentric nebulizers. Operates on standard pressures of 30 - 45 psi.
The T 2100 can be used for any liquid. Salting is very rare, but can occur over long periods of time, especially with high Sodium levels in the solution. PFA 250 & PFA 260

Low Flow design for ICP/MS. PFA nose and inner capillaries and all wetted parts. Peek body for strength and longevity. Sample Capillary: 250 microns. Designed for ICP/MS where low flow is desired and PFA only touching the liquids is desired. Operates from 50 ΅l/min to 2 ml/min. Excellent mist, seems to be more stable, and have lower %RSD than a Mira Mist.
The PFA 250 is set to run higher gas flows for the PE NexION which typically runs at 1.2 L/min. It uses 45 psi for 1 L/min.
The PFA 260 is set to run at higher pressure than a Mira Mist, but well within most instruments standard ranges. It uses about 40 psi for .65 L/min or 60 psi for 1 L/min.
The PFA 250 and PFA 260 can be used for any liquid.

Ari Mist

Very low sample flow, enhanced parallel path design. Standard pressure (40 - 50 psi). Black PEEK body, Teflon sample and gas capillaries. Can operate on 0.050 ml/min to 1.0 ml/min. Good for ICP and ICP/MS. Only for samples that are particulate free. Fits regular chambers as a direct replacement for glass concentric nebulizers.

Ari Mist HP

Very low sample flow, enhanced parallel path design. Higher Pressure (80 psi). Brown PEEK body, Teflon sample and gas capillaries. Can operate on 0.005 ml/min to 1.0 ml/min. Good for LC/ICP/MS. Only for samples that are particulate free. Fits regular chambers as a direct replacement for glass concentric nebulizers. When run at less than 10 ΅l/min it provides similar results to direct injection nebulizers, without the difficulties of direct injection.

ENYA Mist

Ultra low sample flow, enhanced parallel path design. Standard Pressure (50 psi). Our lowest flow ICP/MS nebulizer. Runs from 200 nanoliters/minute to 50 ΅l/min. Designed for ICP/MS - HPLC interface, tiny samples, and for Split flow applications - simple addition of a T connection allows 500 ΅l/min pumped to nebulizer, with 10 - 20 ΅l/min delivered to nebulizer. Other Nebulizers for ICP and ICP/MS

T2002

Our old original standard nebulizer. Works well on most instruments. Fits most chambers. Best results are with Cyclonic Chambers. The T2002 was scheduled to be discontinued in Jan, 2010. However, we have decided to continue to have it available as long as there is a demand for them, and the one person who can make them continues to do so. For most applications, the T2100 is a better nebulizer since it handles larger particles, lasts longer, and provides virtually the same intensities and stability. As of Jan, 2014, we are continuing to produce the T2002 to meet demand.

Burgener Nebulizers such as our Mira Mist and Ari Mist nebulizers use 2 mm gas lines and UpChurch 10/32 finger tight fittings for the gas lines and for the sample lines. Although this allows for simple attachment of GC/LC/CE systems, it is not the standard for other nebulizers. To ensure simple attachments to your instruments, we have an extensive array of fittings and adapters available.

Gas line fittings are usually included with the nebulizer. Please note that we try to send the correct fittings with the nebulizers, but there are many to select from, and we sometimes send the wrong one. . The T2002, Trace and Legere Nebulizers have Swagelok or barb attachments for the gas lines, and all use the same capillary tubing for the sample lines (0.42" - 0.44" OD). The T2002 ships with 1/4", 1/8" and 4 mm Swageloks for European customers, and with only the 1/4" and 1/8" fittings for US customers. Surge Suppressors are available for the T2002 and Trace Nebulizers. They are not necessary for most systems, but are useful for some pumps and chambers.

Graphite Mira Mist HS

Same as Teflon Mira Mist, but flat nose and 25% graphite body reduces drops forming at the tip and being re-introduced into the aerosol. Drops being re-introduced are chamber specific, and few chambers have the problem. For those with a drip problem, the GMM HS helps. Not recommended for GE Cyclonic chambers as they do not have the problem. Works for all liquids, as with 100% Teflon.

Mini Chambers

Mini Chambers are discontinued as of 2018

We have discontinued making mini chambers. The concept of immediate washout is desirable, but actually not related to the size of the chamber. If you spray a mist into a mini chamber at flow rates low enough to allow 100% vaporization before the mist leaves the chamber or before it reaches the torch, then you will get washouts of a second or two instead of minutes to hours. The time for washout depends on the wetness inside the chamber - wet walls take a very long time to clear of any high concentrations of elements. Several companies and individuals have tried to produce systems with tiny chambers or no chamber. Direct Injection Nebulizers do this - the tip of the nebulizer is at the base of the plasma. This provides instantaneous results with no carry over from previous samples. But it also provides enough large droplets that do not vaporize while passing through the plasma that the plasma is severely affected by the large droplets. You get cold spots in the plasma, and you are seeing spectra from elements mixed with signals from molecules and chemistry happening as the droplets vaporize in the plasma producing oxides and other compounds that effect the spectra. You end up with a poor analysis.

Mini chambers close to the torch have the same problems. The larger droplets do not have time to vaporize, so they interfere with the spectra produced and with the plasma stability. To ensure 100% vaporization, several suppliers of mini chambers directly attached to the torch have determined that they need to heat the chamber. While this will vaporize the droplets, the droplets still hit the walls of the chamber, stick, and vaporize on the wall leaving the valuable elements and molecules you are analyzing on the wall as the water vapor goes to the torch. This ruins your analysis and causes a slow washout, negating any benefit of the mini chamber. We noticed the problem long ago and solved it by adding a 1/2 meter length of Teflon lined tubing between the mini chamber and the torch base. The extra 1/2 meter allowed enough time for the droplets to vaporize and had a tiny effect on the transport rate to the torch. But effectively, we made our 9 ml spray chambers into a 30 ml chamber.

Scott double pass chambers and single pass chambers allow the mist to travel for a while before it hits a wall, so that the droplets have time to vaporize or at least shrink to a small enough size that they do not impact and stick to the wall. Once they are vaporized, then the rest of the travel time is minimal regardless of the size of the chamber.

We ran many tests on chambers and low flows to see what allowed 100% transport to the torch. Preventing the mist from wetting the insides of the chamber was the critical factor. The chamber design was not significant if it could be kept dry. So a Scott Double Pass chamber of 60 ml inside volume gave almost identical results to our 9 ml mini chambers, as long as it stayed dry. It was impossible to keep droplets from hitting the sides of cyclonic chambers at the entry into the cyclone. So cyclonic chambers, chambers with glass beads, and anything with a barrier close to the nebulizer can not provide 100% transport of the sample.

Heating chambers will vaporize all of the droplets, but leave a lot of sample on the chamber walls, so heated chambers only work if the droplets never hit the walls of the chamber which requires a long and large enough chamber to provide time for the droplets to vaporize.

For the mist to travel through a chamber and 100% vaporize, you need a long straight passage, and flow rates well below the saturation rate of the Argon carrying the mist. 1 L/min Argon will vaporize 40 ΅l/min of water. So you need about 20 ΅l/min or LESS sample flow into the chamber to allow the Argon to vaporize it, and you need time to vaporize it.

The Scott chambers have a long straight center tube, followed by a second long passage to the torch connector. This provides a passage length long enough to vaporize the droplets, and has no barriers to catch the mist as it leaves the nebulizer. More ideal would be a long straight tube about 50 cm length leading to the torch base. This will not easily fit most instruments and is not likely to ever be used. So a curved back tube is the next best option, and the Scott is essentially that with a bit of turbulence around the exit point.

For most low flow applications, including single cell analysis, CE interfacing, HPLC interfacing, glass Scott Double Pass spray chambers work better than anything else.

An additional note: If you add some alcohol and run 10% - 100% alcohol instead of pure water, then the droplets will vaporize much faster and your delivery to the torch will be more consistent. Also the droplets will be smaller to start with as the nebulizer is able to break the lower surface tension liquids into much smaller droplets. You still need low flows in the same range. For single cell analysis, be sure that your carrying liquid has something to act as an internal standard. If you have pure water or alcohol, then you have no signal unless a cell passes through. If you have some Yttrium in the solution, you can monitor the Y values as a measure that the system is operating properly.
